Arona covers a wedge of southern Tenerife that runs from inland mountains down to the Atlantic. The historic village of Arona sits on the upper slopes, a small cluster of streets around its church, while most of the population now lives near the coast. Along the sea, Los Cristianos grew from a fishing village into a resort town around a sheltered harbour, from which ferries sail to La Gomera.
