Attleboro sits in Bristol County in southeastern Massachusetts, close to the Rhode Island line. The Ten Mile River runs through the city, and its early mills and workshops grew up along the water. A railway line crosses the centre, and the downtown sits close to the station and the river.
From the late nineteenth century Attleboro became so closely associated with jewellery manufacturing that it was called the Jewelry Capital of the World. Factory buildings still stand near the centre. The city is also home to the La Salette Shrine, known regionally for its large Christmas light display.
