Baclaran lies on the southern edge of Metro Manila, close to Manila Bay, where the cities of Parañaque and Pasay meet. On a map, it is one of the densest pieces of the metropolis: narrow streets and alleys fill every block, main roads cut through in long lines, and the bay shoreline and reclaimed land lie just to the west.
The district is best known for the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, commonly called Baclaran Church, which draws very large crowds, especially on Wednesdays. The streets around it are lined with markets and stalls, and Baclaran is also the southern end of the LRT Line 1.
