Bad Aibling is in the district of Rosenheim in Upper Bavaria, in the gently rolling foothills north of the Alps. The Mangfall river passes the town, and a smaller stream, the Glonn, runs through it. The centre is compact and walkable, with a main street and a square, and the residential areas and spa parks spread out from there into the countryside.
The town is known as a spa resort and has long used local moorland peat for mud baths. That tradition gave it the 'Bad' in its name. Its spa park and therapy facilities are still central to the town. To the south, the peaks of the Bavarian Alps rise on the horizon, and Rosenheim and the Inn valley are close by.
