Bagdogra lies at the northern edge of the plains in West Bengal, a short distance west of Siliguri. The feature that defines it most clearly on a map is its airport. The long, straight runway is shared with an Indian Air Force station and is the main air gateway for Darjeeling, Sikkim and the surrounding hill country.
