Baie-Mahault sits on the eastern edge of Basse-Terre, where the island narrows toward the Rivière Salée, the thin sea channel that separates the two wings of Guadeloupe. From above, the commune reads as a meeting of two textures: the ragged, mangrove-lined edge of the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin to the north and a denser web of roads spreading inland toward the green slopes of the island.
The most geometric part of the map is Jarry, the large commercial and industrial zone on the peninsula facing Pointe-à-Pitre.
