Bellavista is the capital of Bellavista Province in the San Martín region of northern Peru, on the edge of the Amazon lowlands. It sits in the valley of the Huallaga River, where the land flattens out into fields before rising again toward wooded hills. From above, the town is a clear, rectangular grid of streets.
