Bergenfield lies in Bergen County in northern New Jersey, among the closely packed suburban boroughs west of the Hudson. From above, it is a dense, orderly pattern of residential streets, mostly straight and evenly spaced. Small commercial strips line the main roads, and the borough boundaries meet the neighbouring towns without any visible gap.
In places the grid changes direction where earlier roads and later developments met, so the map is a patchwork of slightly different orientations.
