Bihāt lies in the Begusarai district of Bihar, on the broad, flat Gangetic plain north of the Ganges. From above, the town is a close network of lanes and small plots, shaped by gradual growth rather than planning. Main roads connect it with Begusarai and the neighbouring industrial area of Barauni.
The land around Bihāt is intensively farmed, and the fields form a fine patchwork of small parcels, with ponds and water channels among them. The river, not far to the south, shapes the region's life through floods, fertile soil and trade.
