Borsad is in Anand district, in the fertile Charotar region of central Gujarat between the Mahi and Sabarmati rivers. The land is almost entirely flat, and from above the town appears as a dense, irregular old core, with newer housing societies laid out in straighter lines around it.
Beyond the edge of town, the map turns into a pattern of field boundaries, village roads and small ponds. Roads leave the centre in several directions toward neighbouring villages, which gives the composition a loose star shape. On a black-and-white print, the tight old streets and the open countryside make a clear contrast.
