Bridgend, Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr in Welsh, takes its name from its crossing over the River Ogmore, which runs north to south through the town centre. On a map the river divides the older streets into two sides, linked by a handful of bridges, including the old stone bridge that gives the town its name.
