Büren lies in the Paderborn district of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the edge of the Sauerland uplands, where the Alme and Afte rivers meet. The historic centre is compact and sits on higher ground above the valley. Wewelsburg triangle
Wewelsburg's unusual triangular plan is clearly visible from above, perched on a spur over the Alme valley. It is one of the most recognisable shapes anywhere in the municipality.
