Catanzaro is the capital of Calabria, built along a narrow ridge above two deep river valleys, a few kilometres inland from the Ionian Sea. From above, the old town follows the ridge in a long, tight strip. Its streets are winding and closely packed, while newer districts spread down the slopes and along the valley towards Catanzaro Lido on the coast.
The city lies at the narrowest point of the Italian peninsula, where only around thirty kilometres separate the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas. Catanzaro is therefore sometimes called the city of two seas. The Ponte Bisantis, a concrete arch viaduct built across one of the valleys in the early 1960s, is among the largest single-arch bridges of its kind in Europe.

Ponte Bisantis
This large concrete arch viaduct spans one of the valleys beside the old town. On the poster it is a clean, straight line across a wide gap.
