Central Map Poster & Print
Central is a municipality in the interior of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil, in the semi-arid country north of the Chapada Diamantina. Its name is plain and direct, and so is its layout: a small grid of streets around the main square, surrounded by open land that stretches in all directions across the plateau.
The town shares its landscape with neighbouring Jussara a short distance to the northeast, and both belong to the farming region around Irecê. From above, the countryside is a pattern of fields and dirt roads, with scattered homesteads and low vegetation. The town's streets end abruptly, and rural tracks begin where they stop.
