Ceyhan lies in Adana province in southern Turkey, on the flat and fertile Çukurova plain. The town is set on the Ceyhan River, which bends through the area in wide loops, and the map shows a dense urban centre along the water with regular streets extending into the surrounding farmland.
Cotton, citrus and other crops fill the fields around the town, and the pattern of irrigation channels and rural roads creates a fine grid across the plain. To the south, on the coast of the Gulf of İskenderun, is the Ceyhan marine terminal, the end point of the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil pipeline.
