Changzheng is a town-level area in Shanghai's Putuo District, west of the city centre. On a map it is a dense arrangement of residential compounds, each a block of apartment buildings set around internal paths and gardens. Main roads and elevated expressways cross it, and the winding Suzhou Creek runs along its edge.
The area was largely rural until the late twentieth century, when Shanghai's growth brought large-scale housing and new roads. Today it is part of the continuous urban fabric of the western districts, with metro lines linking it to central Shanghai.
