Cinco Ranch is a large master-planned community near Katy, west of Houston, spread across Fort Bend and Harris counties. It was developed from former ranch land beginning in the early 1990s. The layout was designed as a whole, and that planning is clear on the map.
From above, sweeping boulevards surround neighbourhood villages of curving streets and cul-de-sacs. Artificial lakes, parks, greenbelts and golf course fairways run between them. The Grand Parkway, State Highway 99, passes close by. The flat terrain means that the street design, rather than the land, creates all of the shapes.
