Coleraine sits on the River Bann in County Londonderry, a few miles upstream from where the river meets the Atlantic. On the map the Bann is the dominant feature, a broad band of water running north through town, crossed by bridges and bordered by quays and riverside paths. The historic centre sits on the east bank around a central square, the Diamond.
The Coleraine campus of Ulster University lies to the north, its buildings and green spaces laid out beside the river on the way toward the coast.
