Colomiers lies just west of Toulouse, in the Haute-Garonne department of Occitanie. It was a small village until the second half of the twentieth century, when it grew rapidly into a planned suburban town. On a map both stages are visible: a compact older core, and around it the curving streets, housing estates and green spaces of the newer districts.
The town is closely tied to the Toulouse aerospace industry, and large industrial sites and the airport zone lie on its eastern side.
