Cumaru is a municipality in Pernambuco's agreste, the transitional zone between the humid coast and the dry sertão further inland. The town at its centre is small. It has a grid of streets, a central square and a few roads leading out to the rural parts of the municipality.
Beyond the edge of town, the map opens into farmland and scrub, divided by unpaved tracks and small reservoirs of the kind common across the northeastern interior. In black and white, those scattered pools and winding tracks give the edges of the poster a loose, hand-drawn quality next to the tidier urban blocks.
