Derhachi lies a short distance northwest of Kharkiv, close enough that on a wider map the two appear linked by roads, railway and scattered suburban development. The town itself is a mix of low-rise residential streets, many following a loose grid, with larger roads leading south toward the city and north toward the border region. Fields and woodland fill the spaces between settlements.
Derhachi is the centre of its own hromada and has long served as a residential and local industrial town in Kharkiv's orbit. The surrounding landscape of eastern Ukraine is gently rolling, crossed by small rivers and streams in shallow valleys.
