Deurne is a district of the city of Antwerp, lying east of the historic centre beyond the ring road. It was a separate municipality until the 1983 merger that brought it into Antwerp. On a map its streets form a dense web of terraced housing typical of Flemish suburbs, broken by a few large open spaces that give the district its own recognisable shape.
The most obvious of these is Antwerp International Airport, whose runway cuts a long straight line across the southern part of the district. Further north lies the Rivierenhof, a large park along the small Schijn river with a castle, ponds and winding paths. Beyond it, the Albert Canal marks the northern boundary with the neighbouring districts.

Rivierenhof park
One of Antwerp's largest parks follows the Schijn through Deurne. Its curving paths, ponds and castle grounds form a green band that softens the dense street pattern.
