Dhāka is a town in East Champaran district in northern Bihar, on the level plain that runs south from the Nepal border toward the Ganges. From above, it is a dense, irregular cluster of lanes around a busy market area, with roads radiating out across farmland toward nearby villages and larger centres such as Motihari.
The land here is almost perfectly flat and intensively farmed, so the map around the town is a mosaic of small fields, ponds and tree-lined tracks. Rivers descending from the Himalayan foothills cross the district, and their old channels and oxbows leave curving traces in the landscape. Settlements appear as small, tightly packed islands among the fields.
