Dhārūr is a town in Beed district, in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. It is best known for its fort, a historic stronghold built on the edge of a deep valley, with walls and gateways that still stand above the town. From above, the old settlement is compact, with lanes gathered close to the fort and newer streets spreading away along the roads.
The surrounding landscape is part of the Balaghat range, where the Deccan plateau is cut by ravines and seasonal streams. On a map, the land's shape shows through the pattern of roads and fields: tracks bending around slopes, fields filling the level ground, and gullies breaking the surface.
