Drvenik Veli lies in central Dalmatia, west of Trogir, beside its smaller sibling, Drvenik Mali. On a map it is a compact island with a heavily scalloped coastline. Cove after cove opens along its edges, especially on the southern side, while the interior is covered with olive groves, scrub and dry-stone terraces.
The island's village and harbour sit on its northeastern shore, facing the mainland, where the ferry and local boats arrive from Trogir. From there a few narrow roads and paths spread out across the island toward the bays. The settlement pattern is sparse, so the map concentrates detail in one place and leaves the rest open.
