Dursunbey is a district town in the interior of Balıkesir province, well away from the Aegean and Marmara coasts. From above it sits in hilly, forested country, and the town takes the shape of its valley. Streets follow the lie of the land, packing densely in the centre and thinning as the ground rises. Beyond the edge of town, the map is mostly slopes, woodland and a few winding roads.
