El Khroub lies a short distance southeast of Constantine in northeastern Algeria, on the high plains that open out beyond the city's famous gorge. On a map the town has an older centre along the main road, with newer residential districts spreading across the surrounding slopes in larger, more regular blocks. Highways and rail lines run through the area toward Constantine and the south.
Nearby stands the Soumaa of El Khroub, an ancient funerary monument often associated with the Numidian king Massinissa. Today the town is part of the Constantine metropolitan area and has grown quickly alongside new urban centres in the region. The contrast between the older street pattern and planned expansion is clear from above.
