Faxinal is a municipality in north-central Paraná, in southern Brazil. The surrounding land is rolling plateau, cut by streams that drain toward the larger rivers of the region. From above, the countryside is a broad patchwork of cultivated fields and pasture, with remnants of forest along the watercourses marking the lower ground between the farms.
Like many towns in this part of Paraná, Faxinal grew during the twentieth-century settlement of the state's interior. Its centre has the more regular street pattern common to towns of that period, with straight streets forming blocks around a central area. At the edges, the grid loosens into residential streets and rural roads that head out across the fields.
