Feni is a district town in the south-east of Bangladesh, on the low, flat land between the Meghna estuary and the hills of Chittagong. On a map, the town shows the typical texture of the delta: small ponds scattered between buildings, winding lanes and paddy fields reaching almost to the centre.
The main road between Dhaka and Chittagong, the most important highway in the country, passes Feni. So does the railway between the two cities, which makes the town a staging point on the busy route to the port. The Feni River flows to the east and gives the district its name.

National highway
The Dhaka–Chittagong highway runs past Feni as a strong straight line. Along with the railway, it ties the town into Bangladesh's main transport corridor.

Away from the main roads, lanes curve between homesteads, fields and water. They give the map a loose, organic grain that contrasts with the highway.
