Feriana is a town in Kasserine Governorate, in western Tunisia, close to the border with Algeria. It lies on the high steppe, a plateau of dry plains and low mountains, and from above the town is a compact cluster of streets surrounded by open land. A few main roads lead away in long lines, towards Kasserine, Gafsa and the border.
Near Feriana are the remains of Thelepte, a Roman town whose ruins lie close to the modern settlement. The surrounding landscape is sparsely built, with farmland, dry riverbeds and tracks crossing it. On a map this openness is striking, as the density of the town gives way almost at once to empty space.
