Fredonia is a municipality in the southwest of Antioquia, in Colombia's coffee-growing highlands south of Medellín. The town centre sits on sloping mountain terrain. Its map shows a compact grid of blocks around the main square that stretches and tilts as it meets the hillsides, with roads leaving town in tight, winding curves.
Beyond the urban area the municipality falls away toward the Cauca River valley. The land is covered by farms, coffee plantations and scattered rural settlements linked by narrow mountain roads. On a black-and-white print these roads become the dominant lines, looping back on themselves as they descend, while the town appears as a dense knot at the centre.
Fredonia is known as the birthplace of the sculptor Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt, whose large public monuments stand in cities across Colombia and Mexico. Roads leave Fredonia in tight switchbacks and long loops, tracing the terrain toward neighbouring towns and giving the poster a strong sense of movement.
