Gaurela is a town in northern Chhattisgarh and part of the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, created in 2020. It lies on an upland plateau near the Maikal hills, in a region of forests, streams and small farming villages. On the map, the town is a compact cluster of streets surrounded by an uneven, green landscape.
The centre has the familiar shape of a market town, with a main road lined by shops and narrower lanes branching off it. Roads leave in several directions through forest and fields, curving with the terrain. The wider area lies close to the sacred town of Amarkantak, where the Narmada and Son rivers have their source.
