Gedangan is in Sidoarjo Regency in East Java, just south of Surabaya. It sits on the low, flat delta land of the Brantas river system. From above it is part of a nearly continuous built-up belt, a mix of village cores, housing estates and industrial sites laid out along the main roads leading south from the city.
The land here is very flat and was historically used for rice fields and fish ponds, and patches of both still show between newer developments. Main roads and a railway line run through the area, and the airport serving Surabaya is not far away. As a result, the map combines dense housing clusters with the large blocks of factories and warehouses.
