Gobindpur is a town in southeastern Jharkhand, within the wider orbit of Jamshedpur, one of eastern India's major industrial cities. It lies on the rolling terrain of the Chota Nagpur plateau. On the map it is a loose fabric of residential lanes and older village cores, with open ground and farmland still visible between them.
The region around it is shaped by the steel industry and the mineral wealth of the plateau, and many residents are tied in some way to the jobs and institutions of the Jamshedpur area.
