Goyerkāta lies in Jalpaiguri district in the far north of West Bengal, in the Dooars, the strip of plains at the foot of the eastern Himalayas. The mountains are close to the north, and rivers flow out of them across the plain in wide, braided channels. The town is a compact cluster of streets on this flat ground.
The landscape around it is very recognisable from above. Tea gardens cover large areas, with their plantation roads and estate boundaries, and between them are villages, farmland, and patches of forest.
