Guankou is part of Liuyang, a county-level city administered by Changsha in north-eastern Hunan. The area lies east of the provincial capital, in a landscape of low hills and river valleys rather than the flat plains found in much of central China. On a map, the built-up area follows the valley floors, with streets fitting between wooded slopes and farmland.
The Liuyang River winds through the region toward the Xiang River and Changsha, and it shapes where towns and roads can grow.
