Guayacanes lies on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic, in San Pedro de Macorís province, east of Santo Domingo. The settlement follows the shoreline, with houses, small hotels and beach properties arranged along the coast road and short streets running down to the sea. From above it reads as a long, narrow band of development pressed between the Caribbean and the flat land inland.
Its beach, sheltered in places by reefs close offshore, has made it a destination for visitors from the capital, especially at weekends. The resort area of Juan Dolio lies along the same stretch of coast, and the highway linking Santo Domingo with the east of the country runs just inland, carrying traffic towards San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana.
