Gudiyatham sits in the Vellore region of northern Tamil Nadu, in a valley framed by low rocky hills. The Kaundinya river, a tributary of the Palar, passes through the town and divides it into sections that are connected by a handful of bridges. The town is known for its handloom weaving, especially lungis, and for small-scale industries that have shaped its neighbourhoods.
