Gulāothi lies in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, on the fertile plain between the Ganges and the Yamuna, not far east of the Delhi metropolitan area. The land is level and intensively cultivated, and from above the town appears as a dense, rounded cluster of streets with field boundaries all around.
The town's core has the organic plan of an old north Indian settlement: narrow, winding lanes, closely packed houses and small open spaces at junctions. Roads lead out toward Bulandshahr, Hapur and neighbouring villages, and newer growth has spread along them over the years.
