Hương Thủy lies southeast of Huế, in the flat land between the hills and the lagoon coast of central Vietnam. The national highway runs through it, and the town has grown along that line. Main streets follow the road, and neighbourhoods spread out from it on both sides.
Beyond the built-up strip, the map opens into rice fields cut by small canals and waterways. Villages form small clusters within that pattern. To the west, the land rises into low wooded hills, and the streets grow sparser and less regular.
