Ibiapina sits on the Serra da Ibiapaba, the long plateau that rises along the western edge of Ceará. The altitude brings a cooler, wetter climate than the sertão lowlands, and the land around the town is green and cultivated. From above, the town is a compact grid, and roads curve across the farmland beyond.
The plateau ends in a steep escarpment to the east, with waterfalls and viewpoints looking out across the plain below. Ibiapina is part of the chain of highland towns along the plateau, where vegetable and flower growing are important. Visitors come for the mild climate, the falls and the views.
