Igaporã is a modest town in the south-west of Bahia, far from the coast, in the dry uplands of the sertão. On a map its centre is compact: a few blocks laid out in a loose grid around a central square, with streets fading quickly into unpaved roads and open land. The surrounding terrain is uneven and sparsely settled.
