Ipswich Map Poster & Print
Ipswich sits where the River Gipping becomes the tidal Orwell, and its map is anchored by water. The Wet Dock, once among the largest enclosed docks in England, curves along the southern edge of the town centre, and the estuary widens southeastward toward the sea. North of the dock, the older streets keep the irregular pattern of an Anglo-Saxon and medieval town.
Ipswich has a strong claim to be one of the oldest continuously settled towns in England. Cardinal Wolsey was born here, and the town is also known for the Willis Building, an early glass-walled office by Norman Foster. Christchurch Park, north of the centre, forms a large green space on the map.
An Ipswich map poster brings together the dock, the estuary and the historic street pattern in one frame. The Orwell Bridge, spanning the river to the south, adds a clean horizontal line that contrasts with the organic streets of the centre.
