Jacareí sits in the Paraíba Valley of São Paulo state, between the metropolitan area of São Paulo and the city of São José dos Campos. On a map, the most distinctive feature is the Paraíba do Sul River, which loops through the municipality in wide, tight meanders that the streets must work around.
