Jahangira lies on the south bank of the Kabul River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a short distance upstream from the river's meeting with the Indus near Attock. On the map the river is the dominant feature. It is wide and braided, with sandbars and channels that shift over time, and the town sits on the higher bank above it.
The historic Grand Trunk Road, one of South Asia's oldest trade routes, passes close by, and the modern highway follows much the same line toward Peshawar and Islamabad. The town grew up where this route and the river meet. It has a compact centre, and newer building stretches along the main road.
