Jalālpur is a town in eastern Uttar Pradesh, on the wide, level plain between the Ganges and the Ghaghara. The land here is intensively farmed. From above, the town appears as a dense cluster of lanes and closely built houses, with roads fanning out across the fields toward neighbouring villages and market towns.
Its layout follows the pattern of many towns in the region. A busy core grows around a market and a main road, and narrower streets branch off at irregular angles. Further out, the buildings gradually thin into fields, ponds and groves. Small ponds and irrigation channels appear across the plain and mark the edges of the farmed plots.
