Jinlong lies in the western part of Chongqing municipality, in the rolling hill country of the eastern Sichuan Basin. On the map, the town is a cluster of streets set within a landscape of low ridges and narrow valleys, where roads rarely run straight for long. The terrain shapes almost every line.
Around the built-up area, the countryside is intensively farmed, and field boundaries follow the contours of the hills in curving bands.
