Kabrāi is in Mahoba district, in the Bundelkhand region of southern Uttar Pradesh. The landscape here is rugged by the standards of northern India, with rocky outcrops, low granite hills and dry uplands. Kabrāi is known for stone quarrying, and granite from the area has long been an important part of local work and trade.
