Kaka lies in Turkmenistan's Ahal province, on the narrow band of settled land between the Kopet Dag mountains and the Karakum desert. From above, the town is a fairly regular grid of streets. Irrigated fields surround it, and the pattern stops sharply where cultivation gives way to dry ground.
The railway running east from Ashgabat passes through Kaka, and it is the strongest straight line on the map. The border with Iran follows the mountain crest not far to the south. That makes the town part of a long chain of oasis settlements strung along the foot of the range, each fed by water from the hills.
