Kakkanad is a suburb on the eastern side of Kochi in Kerala. It is home to the Ernakulam district's Civil Station, the administrative headquarters of the district, as well as Infopark and the Cochin Special Economic Zone, which have made the area one of the city's main employment centres.
The map shows how quickly this development has taken place. Large institutional and office blocks with regular internal roads sit beside older residential lanes that wind across the low hills, and wetlands and water bodies still interrupt the built-up area.
